Friday, October 9, 2020 - Day 6 - Evanston, Wyoming to Moran, Wyoming (Grand Tetons)
Slept in a little today since we have a
shorter drive but still on the road by 8:00. Heading to Fireside Buffalo Valley
for 2 nights which will be a luxury. It is located close to the entrance of the
Grand Tetons and near Yellowstone. We've been to both places before but its
been quite awhile and to us they are must stop places. Everything in Wyoming
seems dusty. None of the side roads are paved and most of the landscape is
rocky. Not nice and green like at home. Picture taking while driving isn't the
best and the fact the smoke from all the fires has made everything hazy doesn't
help either. It is still a beautiful and vast awe inspiring country to which my
pictures don't do justice. Our elevation keeps rising, in the last 2 days we've
gone from 4500 ft to 5200 to 6100 to 9500. The first part of this leg as we left Casper was not very scenic but this
last 50 miles has been spectacular - The best views so far. We had lunch at a
pull off at the continental divide. We then went and found our campground but
didn't set up. Instead we went straight to the Grand Tetons as the entrance was
only 5 miles down the road. It was surprising how many people were there this
time of year but it is a long holiday weekend. In talking to a local he said
they liked to visit in shoulder season. We went to Jenny Lake. Like many others
that visitor center wasn't open but we were really here for the views. Some
things are closed because it is late in the season, others because of Covid. The views though were incredible. Even though we've been there before you forget
how spectacular they are. Came back to the campground, had some spaghetti,
sausage and red wine and made an early night of it.
