Saturday, October 10, 2020 - Day 7 - Moran, Wyoming (Yellowstone)
BRRR.
Woke up to 32 degrees temps. and frost on the picnic table. I didn't sleep well
last night as I was worried about the pipes freezing. Keep your fingers crossed. On the
road just after 8:00. Yellowstone is about 30 miles from our campsite and we
have all day to explore. MAJESTIC BREATHTAKING We, of course, park. We came in
the South entrance and explored parts west as the eastern side was already
closed. We wanted to make a full loop but the road was closed from Tower to
Canyon Village so we had to back track a little. We saw Lewis Lake and old
Faithful. She didn't disappoint either. We hiked to a higher viewing area where we were able to avoid the crowds. Then we stopped and had lunch at a pull off
before continuing on to Norris and Mammoth Hot Springs, Canyon Village. We only
had 1 bison sighting and I didn't get a good picture. We were driving and there
wasn't room to pull over. But we did see 1. Later we saw a few in the distance
and what we thought were a herd of elk and also a female moose by the side of
the road. We stopped at the upper falls of the "Grand Canyon" of
Yellowstone. Ron says it's more like the Letchworth of Yellowstone. Pretty
awesome day now let's pray we don't get any white stuff tonight. - it is a real
possibility. We are prepared though with winter coats, hats, gloves and boots.
Stopped along the road in the Grand Tetons to have alittle cheese and crackers
and then returned to t he campgrounds. We showered and had our left over
spaghetti and red wine. On to bed to see what tomorrow brings.
