Trip to Portugal - Day 5 - Friday, January 17, 2020 - Ohlos de Aguas

Today was our day to explore the area around our hotel. It definitely is off season and many shops and restaurants are closed but there still is plenty to to see and do. We started off with breakfast at a little diner about 2 blocks from the hotel.  We tried some different pastries today but as before they too were delicious. Unlike Mexican pastries that look great but taste meh, these have all been scrumptious - I couldn't pick a favorite.  From there it was a short walk to lovely Falesia Beach.  We walked all the way down the beach and scampered over rocks before we came to Olhos de Agua another small town on the water. The water is beautiful and the cliffs look like they've been stroked by a paintbrush with different colors. We stopped at a cafe on the beach to rehydrate with some Sagres - a local beer. We walked around the town - mostly hotels, townhouses, vacation rentals and restaurants that were closed.  Instead of retracing our steps we decided to walk home on the road so we could see more of the area. Along the way we stopped and bought some figs and clementines that someone was selling in their front yard. We also stopped at the supermercado and picked up some bread and herbed butter which, with a cup of tea, would round out our lunch. It was beautiful sitting out on our balcony especially when I looked at the temperature at home which was -1 compared to 63 here. Enjoyed a relaxing afternoon reading. For dinner we went next door to what I thought was the local pizzeria but got a pleasant surprise. Yes, they did have pizza but also all kinds of pasta, and especially seafood pasta, my favorite! I had a great glass of their house red wine, (have I mentioned how good Portuguese wines are?), a mixed salad and the linguine with seafood. Ron had the same except with tagliatelle. The seafood was shrimp, clams, mussels,  and calamari. So delicious! Of course we had to try the Crema Catalana, which is like a creme brulee ice cream. It will be sweet dreams tonight.
