Thursday, October 15, 2020 - Day 12 - Weaverville, California to Sacramento, California

Almost there. Just 40 miles of this scenic but treacherous road before Lake Shasta and then it will be on to Redding and Interstate 5 to Sacramento. I never liked Rt. 5 but after all the  mountainous windy roads I think I'd rather have the fast but straight and level Rt. 5. There are no fires now but there is a red flag alert for this area because of high temps and winds. We should be out before the warning takes affect. They have cut power to some of these areas already in anticipation but that shouldn't affect us. We saw Lake Shasta in passing but Shasta Lake and Lake Shasta aren't the same thing. We should have stopped at Whiskeytown. This was a last minute thing so I guess for the way back I'll have to plan better for all stops. The temperature right now at 11:00 is 81 and the winds are 26 mph. Ron has to hold the RV on the road again today. When we arrive in Sacramento the winds will only be 12 but it will get to 93 today. A big difference from our days in Wyoming. We have traveled through 12 states other than NY and gone about 4700 miles. But the reward at the end was certainly worth it. We have seen some awesome sights, beautiful landscapes etc. but the best view was of Chris, C.J. and Alma waving as we pulled up to the house. It made all the traveling worthwhile. The pictures at the end of this tell you what this trip was about - FAMILY.
